Newcastle are weighing up a move for Tottenham outcast Danny Rose, following Jetro Willems’ season-ending injury on Tyneside.
England international Rose is thought to have been monitored by the Magpies over the summer, though he ended up staying in north London despite plenty of speculation over his future.
Willems, who has been one of Newcastle’s best players this season, has confirmed he will not feature again this term, though remains hopeful that he has not played his final game for the club.
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are considering a move for Rose, who has fallen out of favour under Spurs boss Jose Mourinho in recent months, while injury problems have also limited his availability.
Jan Vertonghen has featured regularly at left-back over the last few months, while starlets Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga have played there in recent weeks.
Tottenham’s bloated squad desperately needs to be streamlined and it’s believed the 29-year-old would be allowed to leave if an acceptable offer comes in.
Whether Rose would be happy leaving remains to be seen. He said in November he was intent on seeing out the remainder of his deal, claiming ‘I’m not going anywhere until my contract is finished’, but recent reports of a training bust-up may have changed the landscape – though Mourinho has rubbished those claims.
