Manchester United have reportedly joined the race for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez. Spanish tabloid Marca claims that United and Real Madrid have begun talks with the 22-year-old following Barcelona’s failure to agree on a deal.
The Catalans had been initially favoured to sign the Argentine international with personal terms agreed. However, the Spanish giants are unwilling to meet the Argentine’s £99million release clause. Instead, Barca offered £62million plus left-back Junior Firpo which Inter Milan promptly rejected.
This has opened a window of opportunity for other clubs and United are believed to be interested in the forward. Manchester United are one of the few clubs that can afford such fee and the Red Devils are in dire need of a world-class forward.
Martinez is known for his work-rate and ability in front of goal and would be a major addition to the United attack. With the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Pogba supplying passes, he could spearhead an unlikely title chase next season.
This transfer remains very much a speculation and could drag on until the start of next season.
