Reports from ESPN claims that London side Tottenham have failed in their bid to sign Roma forward Edin Dzeko. There had been reports that Spurs manager Jose Mourinho was keen to bring the Bosnian striker as a backup for star player Harry Kane.
Kane has played a lot of games for the club this season, and Mourinho believes that the striker needs rest to prevent burnout. Dzeko is seen as an ideal backup due to his physical attributes and familiarity to the Premier League.
The forward enjoyed a successful stint with Manchester City winning the League twice before moving to the Italian League. Despite turning 33 this year the veteran forward is still regarded as one of the top 30 forwards in Europe and would be a wonderful addition to the team.
However, AS Roma have no plans to lose the forward and rewarded him with a new contract after being close to a move to Inter Milan in the summer. Roma manager Paulo Fonseca is said to have demanded the player remains at the club as he is central to the club plans.
Dzeko has been impressive this season netting eight goals in 19 appearances in all competitions. It will be interesting to see how this transfer will develop in the coming weeks.
