Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has hinted that the club needs a new striker. Lampard revealed this during the post-match conference after the Blues disappointing 1-0 defeat to Newcastle. Chelsea have been inconsistent this season.
This has been attributed to the lack of firepower upfront the departure of Eden Hazard and inability to bring in replacements in the summer has hurt the team.
Lampard suggested after the game that his team were not clinical enough. “We need to be more clinical in the box in terms of our front line, when we attack and we spend a lot of time around the opposition box,”
Although Tammy Abraham has largely delivered, there have been no support from the other strikers. Batshuayi has not delivered the goals when called upon and Olivier Giroud is down the pecking order with the Frenchman expected to leave in January.
There have been transfer rumours that the club could make a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho but it looks unlikely. PSG star Edinson Cavani has also been linked with a move after reportedly handing in a transfer request.
Chelsea have money to spend and the Blues have shown that they are not shy to splash the cash when needed. It would be interesting to see what the coming days hold as we gradually move to the end of the transfer window.
