Chelsea legend Claude Makelele could play an active role in the club’s pursuit of Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
It is reported that Chelsea are keen on the Serbia international who is seen as an important piece of the midfield puzzle ahead of next season.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is on a spending spree as he looks to mastermind a League challenge next season. The London club have already acquired the services of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner from Ajax and RB Leipzig respectively.
It has been suggested by local reports that Makelele could be crucial in their bid to sign the highly-rated midfielder. The French legend is close to Milinkovic-Savic agent Mateja Kezman with the pair being former PSG teammates.
This could prove key when negotiations begin in the coming weeks. French giants PSG are also interested in the midfielder and have reportedly submitted a bid of €60 million for his services.
Lazio are unwilling to entertain any transfer offers until the end of the season due to the club still in the title run-in with rivals Juventus just four points clear with nine games to go.
