Chelsea are reportedly interested in Napoli forward Dries Mertens. However, the Blues are facing a tough challenge in convincing the Belgium forward to switch in January.
Mertens is reportedly keen on breaking the Naples side all-time scoring record and is just four goals shy of Marek Hamsik record of 122 goals.
Lampard is keen on the forward who is highly regarded within the Italian League. The Blues are looking to consolidate on their top 4 ambition and want the Belgium hitman to rejig the attack.
Chelsea have struggled in front of goal in recent weeks with Lampard revealing in the defeat to Newcastle that the team needs more firepower.
Tammy Abraham is the only goal threat in the team and the goals are no longer flowing for the England international.
There had been reports of a potential move for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho but that has been shelved until the summer. Mertens at 32 is no spring chicken but still possesses the ability to decide matches with his shooting prowess.
Napoli could make a push to sell the forward as he is out of contract in the summer.
However, at the moment it appears that the forward would remain at the club as he seeks to become the leading scorer for the Naples outfit.
