Chelsea have announced the signing of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner for a reported fee of around £47 million. The forward had been monitored by the Blues in recent weeks and we had reported some weeks back that a deal had been agreed by both parties.
The transfer is now official with the Blues announcing on Twitter their latest acquisition in what is one of their best transfer windows in recent season. Werner is regarded as one of the best forwards in the game and had been linked to various clubs in recent transfer windows.
Liverpool had been thought to be the favourites for his signature but the Champions-elect failed to agree a deal with Leipzig. Chelsea triggered his release clause and successfully negotiated a contract worth around £170,000 a week.
Werner will add pace, directness and goals crucially to the Blues attack. Chelsea had been criticized this season for their lack of goals and the signing of Werner addresses this glaring problem.
With the arrival of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax the Blues posses one of the most formidable attacks in the Premier League.
